The rainforests have been taken for granted since industrialisation began. We have rapidly depleted our resources with no concern for the future or the environmental damage that could result, and are only now at this late stage contemplating serious action. The rainforest is still being destroyed at a remarkable rate. As far as we are concerned, this is simply unacceptable and unjustifiable, and is something which cannot continue. Our commitment only to work with mature wood, recycling furniture that would otherwise end up as scrap, is one way to reduce the amount of timber we need. However, we acknowledge that this is a significant yet small step towards our desired target.

As a society, we have designed materials which can be used in construction to great effect, yet we still choose to opt for wood. By investing more time and efforts into researching material equivalencies, we could largely eradicate the need for this extent of destruction.

Additionally, by offering incentives, like tax-relief to owners of sustainable sources of timber, we could encourage the use of these resources rather than simple rainforest clearance and destruction. The rainforests should also be granted special status as sites of extreme natural and environmental importance, and we hope to become actively involved in campaigning on this ground, in order to protect the forests and their inhabitants for years to come.

On a personal note, Recon Vogue advise recycling of resources where possible, and we are delighted that so many large pub and hotel chains have contracted with us to this end. For the time being, we can only continue making our difference, with a clear conscience for the benefit of our customers, whom we thank sincerely for allowing us the opportunity to benefit the environment in this way for future generations, and the survival of our planet Earth.
